By voicing their difficulties in using public transport members of Advocare created an Advocarers Forum which was instrumental in improving services for people with mobility problems.

To ease the stress for carer-escort drivers the Advocarers Forum has developed special hospital parking discs. Displaying these discs in the windscreen alerts the hospital 'parking patrol' when a hospital appointment overruns and prevents the carer from being penalised.

Members of the Advocarers Forum are also pressing for privileged hospital parking arrangements for carers on 'escort duty'.

The Advocarers Forum is currently formulating Advocare's Charter for Carers, a unified 'rapid response' strategy in an endeavour to enhance the status of carers and thereby improve standards of care for vulnerable people. We believe that until carers, especially those who are sole advocates, have an independent voice, many vulnerable people will remain at risk.
