About Advocare - Caring for Carers
Formed in 1998, Advocare
- Is a registered charity;
- Is based in Poole, Dorset;
- Is run by carers for carers;
- Helps both unpaid carers and former carers;
- Respects carers' views on health and social care issues;
- Raises the profile on carers' needs;
- Offers a free, independent support service for carers;
- Seeks to reach carers before they reach crisis point;
- Shows caregivers they do have options;
- Values carers as individuals;
- Holds friendly meetings and workshops;
- Organises informal social events;
- Runs specially-tailored assertiveness programmes;
- Works to enhance the status of carers; and
- Can access specialist legal advice and services for carers.
