Our Buy-a-badge Appeal

There are over six million unpaid carers in Britain - similar to the population of London - looking after people who are frail, sick or disabled. Caring makes you poor. Older carers are the most disadvantaged people in Britain.

Many of those looking after loved ones at home struggle to maintain their own quality of life and that of their loved one because they do not have adequate financial resources, cannot obtain reliable domiciliary support or access regular respite breaks.

Some carers have serious concerns about the standard of care their loved ones are receiving when in the care of others.

Until carers, especially those who are sole advocates, have an independent free voice many vulnerable people will remain at risk.

Our badges cost just under GBP 1 to produce. If six million people each bought one of our badges we could set up a trust fund. With a trust fund our charity could:

• Remain financially independent and thereby protect carers and their loved ones from backlash;
• Offer our Caring for Carers service routinely to carers on a national basis;
• Set up a free 24 hour telephone line for carers;
• Establish drop-in centres - Advocare cafès - in every district;
• Help to fund legal advice.
